Featured Program
The Clinical Research Center, in a multi-site collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control, Duke University, and University Hospitals of Cleveland will soon be recruiting healthy volunteers for a study that aims to address key research questions for prevention and control of influenza and COVID-19. Volunteers in the study will help researchers learn more about how many people are infected with influenza this season and to examine how well flu and COVID-19 vaccines work to prevent mild to moderate illness. Dr. Curtis Donskey is the Cleveland VA Principal Investigator.
The study is titled US Platform to Measure Effectiveness of Seasonal Influenza, COVID-19, and other Respiratory Virus Vaccines for the Prevention of Acute Illness in Ambulatory Settings and has two components:
- Component D is for healthy volunteers looking to understand how people respond respiratory illnesses, and to better understand the body’s protective immune response against flu and COVID-19. Anyone who currently does not have any flu-like or COVID-19 symptoms can participate in this study.
- Component A is for volunteers who have an acute respiratory illness and will examine vaccine status, how the body’s immune system responds to the illness and how mild or severe their symptoms become.
If you are interested in obtaining more information, please contact the Clinical Research Center at 216 231-3241 and ask to speak with the Flu/COVID study team.
