Winter quarter’s focus topic is:
GRECCs Improve Health for Older Veterans
The Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Centers (GRECCs) are Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) centers of excellence focused on aging. Established by Congress in 1975 to improve the health and health care of older Veterans, GRECCs have 3 main missions:
- To build new knowledge in geriatric care through research
- To improve health care for older Veterans by developing innovative clinical models of care
- To provide training and education on best practices in caring for older adults for students in healthcare disciplines and VA staff
Indeed, the GRECCs are leaders in the development and delivery of education in best care practices for older Veterans. Three recent advances include:
- A novel program for managing the complex needs of Veterans with dementia
- Information about a power walker that may enhance mobility
- A curriculum for educating trainees and staff about frailty
To learn more, read the GRECC AdVAnces newsletter and the bi-annual newsmagazine, Forum on Aging, posted on the GRECC website.
