MYTH: There’s no need to provide third party, private insurance when you are seen at a VA medical center. FACT: VA is required by law to supplement funds from Congress.
When Veterans show their insurance cards at a VA medical facility, they are helping to improve VA health care for all Veterans. Watch this 90-second video to learn more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBH-b2B0X3E
MYTH: I’m 50% Veteran service connected or above, I shouldn’t have to provide my private insurance. FACT: VA asks Veterans for their private health insurance information when they are being treated for non-service-connected conditions because (they may have a copay).
Providing your private health insurance card can offset some or all of your VA copayment. It may also go toward your annual deductible with your private insurer, saving you money. For more details, visit: https://www.va.gov/health-care/about-va-health-benefits/va-health-care-and-other-insurance/
