Understanding Aggression Among Veterans: Risk-Factors, Assessment, and Treatment
Alison Krauss, PhD
VISN 17 Center of Excellence for Research on Returning War Veterans
October 11, 2022 12pm – 1pm EST / 9am - 10am PST
Program Description:
Around one in three Veterans engage in physical aggression in the past year, with around 10% of Veterans reporting severe violence (use of a weapon, threatening others with a weapon, sexual violence) in the past year. Problematic aggression results in a number of adverse consequences for Veterans, including disruptions in social relationships, loss of employment, difficulty accessing healthcare, and incarceration. Unsurprisingly, Veterans identify aggression as one of the most common reasons for seeking VA care.
This live, virtual, knowledge-based webinar presentation targeting interprofessional healthcare teams will review empirically-identified risk factors for aggression among Veterans and how VA providers can incorporate these risk factors into their current work. Additionally, the presentation will compare approaches to systematically assessing aggression in research and clinical settings. Finally, current treatments for aggression and areas for future work will be discussed.
