News & Announcements

The updated COVID-19 boosters are now available at CAVHCS.

On August 31, 2022, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized updated COVID-19 vaccine boosters that protect against both the original virus strain and the Omicron variant.

The monovalent Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines, which have been used for both initial series and booster doses throughout the pandemic, are no longer authorized by FDA for use as boosters, effective immediately. Monovalent vaccines are still available for those who need a primary series and are effective at preventing severe illness from COVID-19.

CAVHCS is administering Moderna updated COVID-19 booster shots. Here are the times and locations:

Montgomery VA Clinic (MVAC)– Tuesdays 8 a.m. – 12 p.m – walk-in only (no appointments)
Tuskegee Campus – Wednesdays 8 a.m. – 12 p.m – walk-in only (no appointments)
Community Based Outpatient Clinics – by appointment only

Don't hesitate to contact us at 866-601-1079 to schedule your updated booster shot appointment. Our staff will help you find a time that's convenient for you. You can also receive your booster shot at no cost outside of VA or locate a vaccine site at Vaccines.gov - Search for COVID-19 vaccine locations.

Remember to carry your Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card when you go!

Note: There is currently a limited supply of the Moderna Bivalent Booster. Approximately 25-50 doses will be given on designated days at MVAC and Tuskegee Campus on a first come basis until supply increases.
