How to Understand and Support Recovery for Black Individuals in the US Diagnosed with Schizophrenia

Program Description:
This live, virtual, knowledge-based webinar presentation targeting healthcare teams will describe how racism, culture, and community affects diagnoses of schizophrenia and treatment outcomes for Black individuals living in the US. Dr. Nagendra will begin with an overview of how racism has contributed to high rates of schizophrenia diagnoses in Black communities in the US. She will then summarize research on cultural differences in conceptualizations of recovery, as well as racial disparities in treatment outcomes. Dr. Nagendra will end the presentation with suggestions for how researchers and clinicians can employ a racial equity lens to support Black individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia.
