Police Week

Police Week 2022

May 15th, marked the beginning of National Police Week. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week following. This is a time to honor, remember, and pay homage to those in blue for their service and sacrifice.

Thank you to our Phoenix VA Health Care System Police Officers for their hard work and keeping our Veterans and staff safe! We appreciate you all more than you know!

VA Research Week

Science in Service to Veterans is the theme for VA’s 2022 National VA Research Week – May 16 - 20.

This week we honor our Research and Development team for dedicating their career to improving the health and well-being of Veterans through science and research.

Health Technology Management Week

ht

Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) Week,  May 15 – 22, promotes awareness of and appreciation for the critical work of professionals who manage and maintain the vast assortment of health technology found in healthcare delivery organizations.

Radiology Contrast

Interruption of production of IV iodinated contrast (contrast dye) for Imaging exams (especially CT scans) has led to a worldwide shortage. The shortage of IV contrast not only affects the VA but equally severely impacts all medical systems in the Phoenix area.

Although the contrast is again being produced, it will be a few more months before available supplies are back to normal levels.

VA staff are working together to conserve contrast use to ensure enough contrast is available for critically important imaging exams. This may require some routine imaging studies to be postponed for a few weeks until contrast is again readily available. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. However, be assured that the VA is committed to providing imaging services to veterans in a timely fashion.

HRO Theme of the Month

HRO theme of the month is Deference to Expertise

On our journey to become a high reliability organization (HRO), VHA is developing tools and processes to track progress and foster continuous process improvement.

Deference to Expertise can feel uncomfortable, especially if we are used to working within a hierarchy. We must actively solicit unique perspectives and insights. Doing so will help us to avoid missing valuable ideas or critical behavioral indicators that our team members could provide.

Check out this month's HRO newsletter: High Reliability Checkpoint
