Columbus VA New Electronic Health Record - What it Means for You

Columbus became the third VA to implement a new electronic medical record on April 30. Here are some key things patients need to know:

  1. Your medical care will not change. Enrolled patients will keep the same healthcare providers and the same access to medical services under this new system.
  2. A new patient portal, My VA Health, replaces My HealtheVet. This patient portal is a resource available to all patients, but not required to receive care. Any patient can sign up for the portal at any time. Call 614-257-5444.
  3. You can continue to order prescription refills online or over the phone. The new My VA Health patient portal allows you to request prescription refills online, or you can still refill prescriptions by calling 614-257-5230.

Columbus VA switches to new patient portal

The Columbus VA launched its new electronic health record (EHR) on April 30. Now you should use My VA Health as your main patient portal for making appointments, refilling prescriptions, and managing your healthcare at Columbus VA.

To log in to My VA Health, use a Premium DS Logon account, a Premium My HealtheVet account or a verified ID.me account. If you have a Basic My HealtheVet account, upgrade now to a Premium account. There you will find a step-by-step guide to upgrade your My HealtheVet account to Premium.

If you use third-party insurance, bring your insurance information your first Columbus VA appointment after April 30. This will ensure your correct information is on file.

To manage any VA care you receive outside Columbus, continue using your legacy My HealtheVet patient portal to manage those care needs or to view your historical information.

Chronic pelvic pain is common

Relief is available for women Veterans at VA. If you are experiencing chronic pelvic pain, talk to your VA primary care provider, and they will work with you to discover the cause and create an effective, individual treatment plan. Receiving medical care from another facility?

It is very important for Veterans and family members to know the ER notification number. This number should be used in case a Veteran has to receive medical services from any facility other than VA. Veterans should call 844-724-7842 within 72 hours of arriving at an emergency facility.

Whenever possible, contact the Columbus VA Nurse Triage line before receiving care from an outside facility. Nurse triage is available 24/7 at 614-257-5200, option 3

Update Personal Information in DEERS

You may need to update your legal name with DoD and VA

If you are a Veteran or family member who receives health care or direct benefit payments from VA and have changed your legal name, you must update your new name with the Department of Defense (DoD) and with VA as part of the VA transition to the new Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Volunteer drivers needed

Voluntary Service is looking for individuals interested in a volunteer driver opportunity. We are seeking golf cart drivers to help escort patients through the parking lot and van drivers to transport Veterans to local appointments.

A background check and physical are required for anyone interested in volunteering. Contact our transportation coordinator, Stephen Schruers, at 614-388-7200 for details.
