The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System (GCVHCS) is pleased to announce the Moderna COVID-19 second booster vaccination is now available for Veterans and their caregivers who are 50 years or older.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) authorized a second booster option for select individuals to be given four months after receiving the first booster dose:
- All persons 50 and older
- Any person 12 or older with moderate to severe immunocompromise
- Any adult 18 or older who previously received a primary vaccine AND booster dose of Janssen (Johnson and Johnson)
This vaccination represents the second COVID-19 booster vaccination - the initial primary vaccination, the second booster, and now the third shot in the series. For some individuals - those receiving the initial two-dose Moderna vaccination - this represents the fourth shot in the approved COVID-19 vaccination series.
No appointments are required for the Moderna COVID-19 second booster vaccination. Veterans and other eligible beneficiaries can receive a vaccination at the Biloxi VA Medical Center in Biloxi, Mississippi; the Mobile Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Mobile, Alabama; the Joint Ambulatory Care Center (JACC) in Pensacola, Florida; and the Eglin CBOC near Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, and the Panama City Beach CBOC in Panama City Beach, Florida.
If you have any questions about the second booster COVID-19 vaccine, please reach out to your health care team.
The GCVHCS remains committed to the care of the more than 80,000 Veterans we serve along the Gulf Coast, and carefully monitors ongoing community health trends to ensure the safety of our Veterans, their families and our employees.
