We Updated Our Research Pages!
Rocky Mountain MIRECC research (conducted in Aurora, Colorado & Salt Lake City, Utah) spans the entire research life cycle, from basic research in the lab through clinical trials to evidence-based treatments that inform policy and public health strategies.
We recently revamped our Research web pages to better show this progressive, dynamic process and demonstrate the ways we communicate our research to clinicians, other researchers, Veterans, families and communities. You’re invited to explore:
- An introduction to the translational model
- Our research mapped onto the translational model framework
- Focus areas that highlight a few of our key lines of research
- Over a decade’s worth of publications that share research findings
- Multimedia including related visual abstracts and podcasts
- Research participation opportunities and Veteran resources
We hope you will take a few minutes to visit these pages to learn more, and that you will get in touch with any suggestions, feedback or questions!
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
With the message “We believe you, and we believe in you,” VA is reaching out to Military Sexual Trauma (MST) survivors and their families, friends, and supporters throughout Sexual Assault Awareness Month this April. To help VA raise awareness, visit www.MentalHealth.va.gov/SAAM, where you’ll find helpful resources and materials you can explore and share with others. By spreading the word and learning more about this topic, you can help MST survivors move forward on their healing journey.
Diversity Summer Research Program
Rocky Mountain MIRECC is hiring trainees for a Diversity Summer Research Program. Undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Research trainees will work alongside researchers, clinicians and mentors at our research center in Colorado. Working on research studies and attending trainings will help prepare trainees for a successful career in science.
Please share this opportunity with interested undergraduates! Visit the website for more details about the training program and the application process.
Firearm Life Plan Toolkit
Investigators at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus developed the Firearm Life Plan - a new, free, anonymous, public-facing website created to support adult firearm owners and their families in making plans for the future. Created through over a year of in-depth focus groups and interviews with over 100 stakeholders, this website empowers users to make voluntary, private decisions about their firearms. It includes:
- A printable “Firearm Inventory” that provides a template for an individual to list firearms and what they would like done with them (including who, how, and when they should be transferred).
- Additional resources that help individuals document their memories and legacy related to firearms. There are also resources to assist families or friends identify when it might be time to begin these conversations, how to broach the discussion, and much more.
Explore the website and watch this video for more information.
Enrolling Community Health Providers for Suicide Prevention Learning Collaborative
We are currently enrolling community health care organizations for our second cohort of our Veteran suicide prevention learning collaborative, called COLLABORATE (suicide prevention community care learning COLLABORATivE).
While the focus of this model is on assisting community partners to implement best practices for suicide prevention for Veterans, the practices implemented during the learning collaborative will also improve patient safety more broadly within your healthcare system. Of note, COLLABORATE was selected as one of the VA 2021 Community Partnership Challenge winners.
Please assist us in identifying and potentially connecting our team with staff at community health care organizations in the Greater Denver Area that you think may be interested in participating. To do this, please email the COLLABORATivE Lead, Dr. Joe Mignogna (joseph.mignogna@va.gov), with relevant information.
