VA’s Exposure Ed app is designed to assist community providers with providing information to Veterans on potential health effects associated with certain exposures during military service. These exposures include certain chemicals, air pollutants, radiation, occupational or environmental hazards, and warfare agents. The app also provides information on nearby VA facilities, allowing you to assist Veterans with identifying where they can access benefits and services.
With the app, you can search for information on exposures by specific exposure name, date and location of military service, or conflict. You can also learn about potential health effects from these exposures and related VA programs and policies. The app provides tips for asking questions and communicating risk, helps you create a care plan, and lets you build a customized note of related information that can be shared with the Veteran.
Apple and Android mobile device users can download the Exposure Ed app for free in the App Store or Google Play Store. Learn more about the app at https://mobile.va.gov/app/exposure-ed.

The Clinical Viewer module is now available within HealthShare Referral Manager (HSRM). The modules allow community providers to access clinical summaries for the Veterans they care for, including diagnoses, prior medical procedures, medications, lab results, immunizations, and allergies.
The Clinical Viewer module also gives HSRM users a secure, centralized source of medical history and patient details for a Veteran. Information that previously had to be shared by fax or file sharing is now automatically available, making it easier than ever for community providers to ensure they are as informed as possible about the Veterans in their care. Community providers will have access to these medical records for the duration of the Veteran’s referral.
Several Clinical Viewer resources are available:
If you have questions, please contact us at ccra@va.gov.
*Note: Please make sure to log into your HSRM account at least once every 60 days to keep your account active. If your account becomes inactive, email hsrmsupport@va.gov.

Since 2013, VHA’s opioid overdose education and naloxone distribution program has distributed more than 416,000 prescriptions of naloxone, a life-saving medication used to block the effects of a potentially fatal opioid overdose, to Veterans. (REF: https://www.va.gov/opa/pressrel/pressrelease.cfm?id=5492 )
For more than 20 years, VA has focused on reducing the use of opioids and continually builds upon that work by employing four broad strategies to address the opioid epidemic: education, pain management, risk mitigation and addiction treatment. VA takes an interdisciplinary approach to care focused on a Veteran’s Whole Health by using non-pharmacological, complementary pain management treatments, self-care, skill building, and support to transition from a biomedical to a biopsychosocial model of pain care.
To learn more about system-wide strategies VA has implemented since the launch of the Opioid Safety Initiative, check out VA’s article “Addressing the Opioid Epidemic in the United States: Lessons from the Department of Veterans Affairs” here.
