Free COVID-19 Booster and Flu Shots

We have expanded eligibility for free Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine boosters and continue to offer flu shots to eligible Veterans. You can receive both vaccines during the same visit, as per Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines. 

COVID-19 Vaccine Boosters   Flu Shots

We provide only the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine as a booster shot to eligible persons who received either the Pfizer, Moderna or Janssen vaccine. Eligible persons are all Veterans, their spouses and caregivers. You are eligible for a booster if:

Persons who meet the above criteria can stop by walk-in clinics on our University Drive and H.J. Heinz III campuses from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, except federal holidays, for a booster shot. You can also call a community-based outpatient clinic to schedule an appointment for a booster shot.

When you visit for your booster, please bring your CDC vaccination card. If you cannot find your card, we will give you a new one.

 

Persons eligible for flu vaccine are Veterans enrolled in VA health care. Flu shots are available:

  • At any scheduled appointment.
  • At our COVID-19 vaccine walk-in clinics on our University Drive and H.J. Heinz III campuses on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., except federal holidays.
  • At the University Drive Emergency Department evenings, weekends and federal holidays only.
  • By appointment only at all community-based outpatient clinics. Call to schedule an appointment at your local clinic.

  • From Community Care Providers. Eligible Veterans can receive their seasonal flu shots at Community Care Network retail pharmacies and urgent care locations.

 

Community Providers and Vaccines

If you go outside VA for your COVID-19 or flu vaccine, please tell your VA health care team by phone or via secure messaging. If you use secure messaging, please include a picture of your CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card.

  • Call VA toll-free at 877-222-8387, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Apply at www.va.gov/health-care/how-to-apply
  • Download the mailable VA Form 10-10EZ. Send the completed 10-10EZ with a copy of your DD214 to VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, Attn: Patient Registration, University Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15240.
