Welcome  to  VA St. Louis Veteran Employment Services!

Please allow me to use this inaugural issue to introduce myself and my role as the Community Employment Coordinator (CEC)

I joined the Hope Recovery Team as the CEC in April 2020 (On the front side of COVID 19).  I served 8 years active duty with the Unites States Navy in various roles from Aviation Structural Mechanic-Hydraulics, Recruiting, Command Drug and Alcohol Advisor, followed by 8 years of with the Department of Health and Human Service as an Employee Assistance Specialist.  Since then I have spent the greater part of my time in the workforce development sector.

As the CEC my sole focus is on sourcing and fostering relationships with employers and community partners, who are willing, to hire or assist veterans in seeking competitive employment.

Having been in this role for 27 months, faced with the challenges that the pandemic presents to employers, community based service providers and individuals seeking employment the position has proved quite rewarding.  The VA STL continues to meet and exceed all of it's employment goals.

It is my hope that this bulletin, going forward, will provide you with valued information on a monthly basis that will assist you in securing meaningful and competitive employment.

What Veterans Who Are Homeless or At Risk For Homeless Should Do For Help

Local area Veterans who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness are strongly encouraged to contact  the HOPE Recovery Center  at (314) 652-4100 ext. 55405 for assistance. If Veterans do not have access to a phone or the internet, then visit their closest VA medical center without calling in advance. VA also urges Veterans who are not homeless or at risk of homelessness to contact their VA medical center before visiting for any reason. These steps are necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Something You Should Know...

Job Market

Being aware of and up to date on what skills employers will need in the St. Louis region post COVID can greatly influence your employment strategy.

According to Dr. Jeff Pittman, Chancellor St. Louis Community college during the  2021 STATE OF ST. LOUIS WORKFORCE SUMMIT "  St. Louis employers are very optimistic about a strong economic recovery and are looking to hire full time employees in middle-skill fields such as skill trades, patient care and manufacturing, But, as our 2021 State of the St. Louis Workforce report shows, companies are finding it hard to attract the employees they need."
