Important Information on Seasonal Flu Vaccine & COVID-19 Vaccine BoostersBecause of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is imperative you receive your annual flu vaccination in order to prevent the further spread of preventable viruses. Veterans actively enrolled in VA health care with Wilmington VA Medical Center, can receive the seasonal flu vaccine between September 27, 2021 and December 17, 2021 at the main medical center in Wilmington or at one of our five Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) located in Kent and Sussex counties in Delaware; Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties in New Jersey. COVID-19 Vaccine Booster ShotsBased on current guidance, booster shots for the non-immunocompromised population who received either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine may be administered eight months after being fully vaccinated. We expect to begin this process mid- to late-September in conjunction with our annual flu vaccinations. Any updates to CDC guidance may reflect changes in timeline to receive booster vaccines. Communication will be updated accordingly. Detailed COVID-19 vaccine information can be found on our website at www.va.gov/wilmington-health-care/programs/covid-19-vaccines. Self-Reporting Vaccinations Outside of VAEligible Veterans can receive their seasonal flu shots at Community Care Network (CCN) retail pharmacies and urgent care locations (www.va.gov/COMMUNITYCARE/flushot.asp). No appointment or VA referral is required. Veterans need to present a valid government-issued identification (e.g., Veterans Health ID Card, Department of Defense ID card, state-issued driver's license or ID card, etc.). Veterans can also use the VA Locator (www.va.gov/find-locations) to find a VA facility, in-network retail pharmacy or nearby urgent care location. If you have received your flu vaccination outside of the VA, please notify your Primary Care Provider (PCP) during an appointment or through My HealtheVet using Secure Messaging.
