 Dear SFVAHCS Veteran,
We are reaching out to update you on our vaccination efforts. Last month, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the emergency use authorization for the one-dose COVID-19 vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson. Last week, the San Francisco VA Health Care System received an initial shipment of this vaccine. As we continue to determine how best to distribute all vaccine options, we are currently providing the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine to locations in which it has proven difficult to ensure that two doses are administered in an effective and timely manner. These include our community-based outpatient clinics, homeless outreach programs, and hospital/emergency department discharges.
Given the limited vaccine supply at this time, we cannot offer patients a choice between vaccine options. Our priority is to quickly vaccinate as many patients as possible and the best vaccine option is one that patients can receive without delay.
We are eager to offer vaccines to more patients and encourage them to make an appointment as soon as possible if they are eligible. Vaccine appointments are currently being offered to the following qualifying individuals:
- Veterans age 65 years and older
- Veterans of all ages with the following high-risk health conditions:
- Diabetes
- Heart disease
- Obesity
- COPD
- Chronic kidney disease
- Sickle cell disease
- Pregnancy
- Active cancer
- Caregivers in the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers who care for Veterans in categories listed above
If you are an individual, or know an individual, who meet the above criteria, and would like to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, please call 415-750-2204 to schedule an appointment at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. Or, to receive the vaccine at our local VA clinics, please give them the appropriate phone number below. NO DROP-IN VISITS WILL BE ACCEPTED. PLEASE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT.
