STIGMA AND MENTAL HEALTH
The mission of the VISN 5 MIRECC is to support and enhance the recovery and community functioning of Veterans with serious mental illness and addressing mental health stigma is a critical part of recovery-oriented care. Individuals with mental health diagnoses have long experienced the harmful effects of the societal stigmatization. Self-stigma occurs when individuals absorb negative stereotypes into their beliefs about themselves.
In this e-blast we present a resource outlining a pilot research study examining a treatment to help Veterans with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) manage self-stigma and other materials from the VISN 5 MIRECC for stigma and mental health.
