EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS

We thank everyone for their patience and cooperation with our screening process for arriving at the Wilmington VA Medical Center and our Community Care Clinics.  Your flexibility and understanding is very much appreciated.  Please be advised of the procedures that are in place when arriving to the center.

To further promote the health and wellbeing of our veterans we are requesting that you contact us prior to coming to the hospital or clinic for an appointment.  To contact us by telephone please dial: (302) 994-2511, Extension: 1810.   We may be able to provide your care virtually.  Virtual care will be our preferred method of delivering care until we know more about this virus. Through our virtual care programs (telephone, VA Video Connect) we can assess and develop a care plan to fit your health care needs. Your Primary Care Team as well as those appropriate specialty care providers will be able to participate in such virtual appointments.

Visitors are also being restricted.  we are restricting visitors to the inpatient unit and the ICU.  No one under the age of 18 will be admitted to the facility.  Only one visitor per veteran is allowed for Veterans who require assistance.  Access will be determined on a case-by-case decision where the visitor is critical to the care of the Veteran.  Only visitors without symptoms will be permitted to enter the Medical Center.   No visitors will be allowed to wait in common areas (canteen areas, waiting rooms, vending areas, etc.).

Based on guidelines from VA and other federal partners beginning on March 18, 2020 we will be restricting elective, non- emergent procedures.  This includes surgery, GI, and other specialty care procedures. A member of your care team will be contacting you and will be more than happy to work with and evaluate when is the best time to have that procedure or test.

We apologize for any inconvenience, but our number one goal is the safety of our Veterans, staff and the community. We will continue to monitor the situation and will do whatever is necessary to ensure your health and safety while balancing the vital mission of providing exceptional healthcare to our Veterans.
