Updates from VA Long Beach
What we're doing to prevent Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Screenings
In an abundance of caution and to protect our hospitalized Veterans, we will initiate screenings at open entrances for all visitors and employees. The screenings will help reduce the risk to our Veterans, our visitors and our staff as well as the families of all involved. We fully recognize this will cause some inconveniences, but the safety of those we care for must be the priority.
Entry Restrictions
To help the screening process, entrance to the Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center will be limited from the following FIVE buildings during business hours:
- Bldg. 164 (Primary Care)
- Bldg. 126 (Tower)
- Bldg. 128 (Mental Health)
- Bldg. 2 (Adjacent to the Credit Union)
- Bldg. 150 (Spinal Cord Injury)-Newly added
For non-business hours of 6 PM - 6 AM and on weekends, the only entrance will be through Bldg. 164 (Primary Care).
Visitor Restrictions
Visiting hours will be limited from 6:00 am until 6:00 PM.
Visiting hours will be closed for SCI and CLC until further notice.
Event Cancellations
VA Long Beach is cancelling all non-clinical events coming up, in order to reduce possible exposure from the community.
This includes:
- March 10 Veterans Town Hall
- March 14 SPERDVAC Radio Show
Thinking About Coming In?
Do you have a fever, cough, or flu/cold-like symptoms? Stay home and phone: let VA support you by telephone or video! Prevent the spread of infectious diseases to your fellow Veterans.
If you have symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath, sign in to My HealtheVet and send a secure message or call 877-252-4866 to speak with a VA nurse for guidance before visiting one of VA Long Beach Healthcare System’s facilities. Tell them about your symptoms and any recent travel.
Consider telehealth. Contact your provider or sign in to My HealtheVet and send a secure message for info about VA’s telehealth options that let you get evaluated, diagnosed, and care without leaving your home or office.
Prevention is still the best medicine.
Get a flu shot and take these everyday precautions to help keep yourself and your loved ones protected against flu, COVID-19, and the common cold.
- Get a flu shot
- Keep your hands clean by washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
- Avoid people who are sick
- Stay home and away from others when sick
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with tissues or your arm/sleeve. Dispose of tissues in the trash.

We thank our community for their incredible support during this time.
