New COVID-19 Procedures Across the OVAHCS

All Orlando VA Healthcare System facilities are fully operational. 

We know some of you may be concerned about the spread of COVID-19 (the new coronavirus) in Florida and how it is impacting the Orlando VA Healthcare System.  Ensuring our Veterans remain safe and uninfected is one of our top priorities.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and VA have recommended a variety of enhanced steps that we are implementing to help further reduce the spread of the virus on our campuses. 

In an abundance of caution for the safety of our staff and patients – and in accordance with national VA guidance – we will begin enhanced screening of all employees, patients and visitors.  Effective March 10, 2020, the following measures are being implemented by location.  This daily screening will comprise of a temperature check and completion of a short questionnaire. 

In addition to the entrance questionnaire, access to each site of care will be limited as listed below:

Orlando VA Medical Center

  • All pedestrian traffic to the main medical center building will be routed to:
  • Back Lobby/South Entrance
  • East Garage Entrance on 1st Floor only
  • West Garage entrance on 1st Floor only
  • Note: During weekends, holidays, evenings and nights, the only entrance to be used will be Emergency Department side entrance
  • Visiting Hours will be limited to 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.  or at the discretion of the clinical care team and must be communicated with those at the screening checkpoints.
  • No children under the age of 18.
  • Those arriving on Buses or VTS should be screened prior to getting on bus and have a wrist band based on day of week.

Orlando VA Medical Center Community Living Center

  • The Front Entrance will be the only access point.
  • Limit 2 visitors only during hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • No children under the age of 18 and no pets.

Orlando VA Medical Center Domiciliary

  • The Front Entrance will be the only access point.

Daytona Beach VA Multispecialty Outpatient Clinic, PRRC, Westside Pavilion

  • The Front Entrances will be the only access point.

Viera VA Health Care Center

  • The Front Entrance will be the only access point.

Lake Baldwin VA Medical Center

  • Building 500 – Decreased entrance points.
  • Building 504 – Decreased entrance points.
  • Trailers – limit to one entrance.

Lake Baldwin VA Medical Center Domiciliary

  • The Front Entrance will be the only access point.

Crossroads

  • The Front Entrance will be the only access point.

Kissimmee, Clermont, Deltona, and Tavares VA CBOCs

  • The Front Entrances will be the only access point.

Other ways you can help protect yourselves and your loved ones:

  • If you are experiencing COVID-19 (Coronavirus), flu or cold symptoms- Please use the available VA Virtual Care options- VA Video Connect or the 24/7 VISN 8 Clinical Contact Center (1-877-741-3400).
  • Practice proper hand washing hygiene. Wash your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds or with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.

VISN 8 Clinical Contact Center Veterans who require immediate urgent care services can call the VISN 8 Clinical Contact Center at 1-877-741-3400 for 24/7 support. This service is not to be confused with emergency services. For more information about the VISN 8 Clinical Contact Center, please visit www.visn8.va.gov/ccc.asp.

VA Veteran Disaster Line
A toll-free number has been established for Veterans who receive care in the impacted area. They or their families should call 1-800-507-4571 to receive information on where to go for care, how to receive prescription drugs, or any other concerns they may have about their care. The phone line will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For information about compensation or pension benefit checks, please call the toll-free number 1-800-827-1000. The phone line is operational Monday -Friday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST.
