Dr. Kath Bogie

Congratulations to Kath M. Bogie, DPhil who has received a 5-year VA Rehabilitation Research & Development (RR&D) Research Career Scientist (RCS) Award effective last month. The over-arching goal of Dr. Bogie's research activity is to develop and evaluate novel clinically-focused approaches to reduce the fear of developing chronic non-healing wounds, in particular pressure injuries (PrI).

Dr. Bogie also received a 4-year, $867K VA RR&D Merit Review to build on her multi-scalar model of Biomarkers for Early Identification of Pressure Injury Risk (BEIPIR) to enable earlier identification of individuals predisposed to rapid and higher levels of intramuscular adipose tissue deposition, a critical clinically significant risk factor for PrI development. In collaboration with the Spinal Cord System of Care at Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center and the Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders Service at James J. Peters VA Medical Center, the study will validate the model. Improved personalized PrI risk assessment will enhance health and quality of life for Veterans with SCI and reduce VHA healthcare costs.
