DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center (MEDVAMC) in Houston, Kelly Irving, MSN RN, is a key member of the senior executive leadership team. She provides expert knowledge of nursing practice for the state-of-the-art medical facility at MEDVAMC and nine community-based outpatient clinics in southeast Texas. Irving has served the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) since 2005 in a variety of roles, including Skin Risk Nurse Manager, Associate Chief Nurse of Operations and, most recently, as the Deputy Associate Director for Patient Care Services. Trust is at the center of every program and project across the Veterans Affairs Department. The goal is to rebuild the trust of Veterans, particularly in how the agency delivers healthcare. VA’s most recent data shows great strides, but it’s the institutionalizing of those efforts that will produce long-term change.
