New funds to improve the manufacturing system of the artificial lung technology

Dr. Joseph Potkay holding an artificial lung

Congratulations to Joseph Potkay, PhD who has received a VA Technology Transfer grant titled Human-scale microfluidic artificial lungs for Veteran rehabilitation. This $118K award will last through FY2020 to fund enhancements to a new manufacturing system for large area microfluidic artificial lungs. The proposed enhancements will increase yield, reliability, and manufacturing capabilities, and decrease variability, manufacturing time, and development time. These improvements will increase commercial interest by decreasing time to market and increasing the probability of developing the world’s first clinically-relevant microfluidic artificial lung.
