Dr. Aasef Shaikh

Congratulations to Aasef Shaikh, MD, PhD, who has received the American Parkinson Disease Association's prestigious George C. Cotzias Fellowship. This 3-year, $240,000 fellowship will allow investigation of the influence of the basal ganglia, thalamus, and cerebellum network on discordant visual input induced gait disorder in Parkinson's disease (PD). The project will aim to understand how PD interferes in the brain pathways that maintain gait and balance.

The George C. Cotzias Fellowship is awarded to early-career physician-scientists with exceptional promise in establishing careers in research, teaching and clinical services relevant to the problems, causes, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson’s disease and related neurological movement disorders.
