• XaTek Inc., a Cleveland-based company developing a portable sensing system that can quickly assess the clotting ability of a person’s blood, recently raised $9.1 million in Series A capital to further advance and test the device, called ClotChip.
• A 200-person clinical trial conducted at Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center ended in July. This fall, a ClotChip trial involving hemophiliacs will be conducted at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.
• Publication of a research paper on the ClotChip in the Journal of Thrombosis and Hemostasis, titled Assessment of Whole Blood Coagulation with a Microfluidic Dielectric Sensor, can be viewed through Wiley Online Library.
• US Patent No. 9,995,701, titled Capacitive Sensing Apparatuses, Systems and Methods of Making Same, issued on June 12, 2018. Inventors: Pedram Mohseni, Michael Suster, Mehran Bakshiani, and Umut Gurkan.
