VA Supports Military Spouse Careers
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recognizes the strength and contributions of the Nation's nearly 1 million military spouses on Military Spouse Appreciation Day each May. This year, it falls on Friday, May 10, but at VA, military spouses are celebrated year-round.
They are the foundation that allows Service members to serve and thrive in their environments. This is why VA is dedicated to supporting military spouses through benefits and services, as well as career opportunities that fit their unique needs. With a career at VA, military spouses gain access to:
-
Job transferability to vacant funded positions for which they are qualified when required to move as part of the Service member’s military service.
-
Telework and remote work positions.
-
Flexible work hours or compressed work schedules.
-
Paid or permissive Permanent Change of Station (PCS) leave.
The Department’s Veteran and Military Spouse Talent Engagement Program (VMSTEP) helps Veterans, transitioning Service members, and military spouses develop competitive applications to secure employment with VA. These services include:
- Federal resume support and revisions.
- Interview preparation and advice.
- Guidance on dressing for success.
- Assistance navigating the Federal Government’s official employment website USAJobs.
