Dear GI Bill® student,
We are contacting you to inform you that you may have received, or may soon receive, a postal mail letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Education Service, dated on or after June 13, 2026, stating that you owe a debt for Post‑9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) books and supplies, tuition and fees, or Yellow Ribbon payments that you have not received for a term you were previously planning to attend.
Please note that this postal mail letter was sent in error. You do not owe VA a GI Bill debt for any of these payments, and no action is required from you at this time.
Due to a known system error, when a student terminates their enrollment in a future term, debts are incorrectly established for payments that were not previously issued. VA is actively working to resolve the erroneous debt on your account. You will receive an updated letter via postal mail once your record has been corrected.
If you do not receive any postal mail letters from VA regarding a GI Bill debt owed, you may disregard this update.
You do not need to call regarding this issue, however, if you have further questions about your benefits or need additional assistance, you may submit an Ask VA (AVA) inquiry or call 888-442-4551 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday.
We appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this system error.
Respectfully,
Education Service
