Greetings,
Starting August 4, 2025, the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) will no longer be able to send benefit payments to more than one bank account for any VBA education benefit. This change is being made to help protect Veterans and families from fraud.
Prior to this update, an individual receiving both education benefits and another VBA benefit, such as disability compensation, could have two different banking accounts, one for each benefit.
The easiest way for Veterans to make changes to their payment account information is to log on to VA.gov/change-direct-deposit. Step-by-step instructions to make this update can also be found on our “How to change direct deposit information for VA benefits” webpage.
The easiest way for dependents (a spouse or children) to make changes to their payment account information is to provide updated information via AskVA. Payment account information can also be updated by calling the Education Call Center at 888-442-4551.
Please note that any changes you make to your banking information will affect the banking information for all VBA payments. This includes any other VA benefit, such as disability compensation, you may be receiving. You can only have one bank account on file for all VBA payments.
Given the significance of this update, VBA will reach out again in the future to remind everyone of the upcoming deadline to update their payment account information. These messages will always have “Update your VA direct deposit information” in their subject line, so if you update your account or review and find that no update is needed, you may disregard these future reminders.
Importantly, if no action is taken, you will not miss a benefits payment. If there are two payment accounts on file however, and you do not consolidate your bank accounts for benefits, on August 4, 2025, VA will consolidate them on your behalf, routinely electing the non-education benefit pay account as the single bank account.
Always be cautious about communications asking you to update your information. Only go to our official VA website at https://www.va.gov. We will never send you to another site to update your information. And never select a link from an email without checking it first. Hover your cursor or assistive device over any links without selecting them. Read or listen to the URL to make sure the link goes to the destination you’re expecting. You can also always call us directly by calling the Education Call Center at 888-442-4551 or by submitting an encrypted message through AskVA.
Respectfully,
|
