Department of Veterans Affairs Education Service: copy of Executive Memo
Veterans Benefits Administration sent this bulletin at 01/27/2025 10:01 AM EST
As noted on the January 21 Fireside Chat, the Executive Director, Mr. Joseph Garcia, is sending a memo to school leadership on a variety of topics. The primary objective is to encourage senior decision makers to evaluate and provide sufficient resources for SCOs to support student Veterans and their families. The recommended ratio for a full-time SCO supporting GI Bill students is 125:1. While many are achieving this target, there are a high number that are above this ratio. To be clear, the Executive Director has no legal authority to mandate compliance with this recommended ratio but will continue to emphasize to school leadership the importance of adequate student Veteran support. This is the time where budgets are being evaluated for the next fiscal year, so the timing of the memo is paramount. When the last memo on the ratio was sent out, there was feedback from numerous SCOs that it had indeed made a difference.
The memo also includes updates on the Supreme Court Rudisill decision that may lead to additional education benefits for over a million beneficiaries, as well as an update on the recently passed Senator Dole Act (short title).
Please see the letter the Executive Director sent earlier for your awareness. We encourage you to follow up if the letter was received at your school and encourage additional discussion to take place.
Respectfully,
Education Service
