Ask VA (AVA) is the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) secure electronic communication system for customers such as Veterans, beneficiaries, School Certifying Officials, and Veteran Service Officers. AVA inquiries are routed to different VA offices based on the category and topic the customer chooses from dropdown menus.
What Has Changed
VA recently updated AVA dropdown options for the VA Debt Management Center (DMC). Updates to the SCO handbook are pending. To send an AVA inquiry to DMC related to Post 9/11 GI Bill debt for an Education and Training Institution (ETI):
Select "Debt for benefit overpayments and health care copay bills" as the category.
Select “Education benefit overpayments (for schools)” as the topic.
Once these options are selected, AVA will also require selecting a facility code and the state the ETI is located in.
If you are requesting a debt list by facility code and your institution has multiple facilities, you can continue to select “A general question” under “My inquiry is,” then choose one facility code/location for the required sections and list the additional facility codes for which you need a list in the “What is your question?” box.
