If you are using Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits and receive a monthly housing allowance (MHA) and/or kicker payments, you must verify your enrollment at the end of each month.
Verifying your enrollment is simple. You may verify via text, email or online. VA strongly encourages you to use text messaging as a simple, quick and safe option to verify your enrollment, and receive your payments uninterrupted.
Get started:
First, please make sure your email address or phone number on file is the most up to date. If you need to update it, you can use Ask VA.
If you have not yet created a VA.gov account with ID.me or Login.gov, please watch our how to video and create your account.
Reminder: Please create your VA.gov account with a non-military email address such as your personal email address. It’s a possibility you may lose access to your military email address after you separate from service. Therefore, creating your account with your personal email address is recommended.
Opt in to verify through text:
After enrolling in your courses and if you have a U.S. mobile phone number (this includes Puerto Rico numbers) on file, you will receive a text message letting you know you’ve been automatically registered to receive texts for enrollment verification.
Then, about 24 hours later, you’ll receive an opt-in text from VA. Texts will be sent from our 44354 short-code number.
Once you’re opted in, you can simply reply to a text message from VA at the end of each month to verify your enrollment. Please watch the How to Verify your Enrollment video to learn more about the monthly enrollment verification process.
If you choose not to opt in to text verification or have an international mobile phone number, you’ll be automatically enrolled into email verification, if VA has a valid email address on file for you.
About online verification:
If you don’t reply within 14 days to themonthly enrollment verification text or email, the conversation will expire, and you’ll need to verify through online verification.
