Important PACT Act Update
-
Beginning March 5, we’re making millions of Veterans eligible for VA health care years earlier than called for by the PACT Act.
-
Specifically, all Veterans who were exposed to toxins and other hazards while serving our country – at home or abroad – will be eligible to enroll directly in VA health care without first applying for VA benefits.
- That includes all Veterans who served in the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan, and any other combat zone after 9/11.
- It includes all Veterans who deployed in support of the Global War on Terror.

And it includes Veterans who never deployed but were exposed to toxins or hazards while training or on active duty here at home – by working with chemicals, pesticides, lead, asbestos, certain paints, nuclear weapons, x-rays, and more.

We’re doing this because VA provides the best, most affordable health care in America for Veterans – so we want as many Veterans as possible to come to us for their care.

So, to all the Veterans out there: don’t wait, apply for the care you deserve at VA.gov/PACT.

Even if you don’t need this care today, you might need it tomorrow, or the next day, or 30 years from now. It’s quick and easy to apply. And once you’re in, you have access for life.

Visitor Engagement Reporting Application (VERA)
Visitors seeking assistance from the Public Contact Team at the Huntington Regional Office are encouraged to schedule a virtual or in-person appointment on the Visitor Engagement Reporting Application (VERA). VERA is a self-service portal which allows visitors to schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments.

Tax Season Reminders for Veterans
Some helpful reminders for Veterans and beneficiaries:
- VA benefits are tax free.
- There is no federal income tax on VA insurance proceeds.
- Veterans with a service-connected disability rating may benefit from local property tax exemptions.

What can VA disability compensation do for you?
A disability compensation is a monthly tax-free payment to Veterans who got sick or injured while serving in the military and to Veterans whose service made an existing condition worse. Learn more: http://va.gov/disability/.

We've teamed up with the State of West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance (WVDVA) to launch Virtual Access Sites (VAS) at WVDVA benefits offices across the state of West Virginia. The VAS provides Veterans and Claimants with a comfortable, private space equipped with internet access and the help and technology needed to meet virtually with VARO staff via a secure video connection.
If you have limited internet connectivity at home, don't feel comfortable setting up a virtual meeting by yourself, or simply don't want to take the trip to Huntington, you can drop in the WVDVA benefits offices Monday through Friday, between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm and they'll set you up in a virtual meeting with a benefits counselor at the Huntington Regional Office.
