Hello,
Starting April 20, 2024, VA will no longer send a Veteran’s or family members’ benefit payments to more than one bank account. We’re making this change to help protect Veterans and families from fraud.
Our records show that you have 2 bank accounts listed for your benefit direct deposit payments – one for your GI Bill, and another one for your other VA benefit, such as disability compensation. This means that you must consolidate your payments into one direct deposit account by April 20, 2024.
You should know a couple things:
- By April 20, 2024, you must sign in to VA.gov and check to make sure that you have the same bank account listed for all direct deposit benefit payments.
- Always be cautious about communications asking you to update your information. Always go only to our official VA website at https://www.va.gov. We’ll never send you to another site to update your information. And never select a link from an email without checking it first. Hover your cursor or assistive device over any links without selecting them. Read or listen to the URL to make sure the link goes to the destination you’re expecting.
Here are those directions in more detail:
-
Sign in to VA.gov with a verified Login.gov or ID.me account.
-
Go to the Direct deposit information section of your VA.gov profile.
- Check your direct deposit information for all benefit payments to make sure the same account is listed for all.
There will be a box with direct deposit information for education benefits AND a box for the other benefit you receive.
If the accounts don’t match, update the information so it's the same for each account.
If you do not have a bank account, you can go to Veterans Benefits Banking Program (VBBP) - Veterans Benefits Administration (va.gov): https://www.benefits.va.gov/benefits/banking.asp.
