Good afternoon,
Due to the popularity of the Veteran Employment Through Technology Education Courses (VET TEC) Pilot Program, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has experienced record-breaking enrollment numbers for fiscal year 2024, with over 600 enrollment certifications received since November 9, 2023. As of today November 17, 2023, the VET TEC program’s annual cap of $45 million is nearing exhaustion. VA will soon be unable to fund any new VET TEC students.
Requested Action: Effective close of business Friday November 17, 2023, VA requests that all VET TEC Training Providers temporarily halt submitting new VET TEC enrollments while VA confirms how much funds remain available. If additional funding is available, VA will provide guidance on how additional enrollments can be submitted.
Future of the VET TEC program: The five-year VET TEC pilot program will expire on April 1, 2024. Legislation has been proposed to make VET TEC a permanent initiative, however, no legislation has been passed which would affect the program. Any changes or updates regarding the future of VET TEC will be published to the Veterans technology education courses website.
Students currently enrolled in VET TEC programs will continue training uninterrupted. Individuals with a VET TEC Certificate of Eligibility (COE) but not yet enrolled in a program will be notified of the limited availability of funding and will be reminded that this is the last year of the VET TEC pilot program. New VET TEC applicants will have their applications for the pilot program reviewed and if found eligible will be proactively notified in their COE of the limited funding remaining.
Once funds are fully exhausted mass communications will be sent to all Training Providers, current VET TEC beneficiaries, and all beneficiaries in receipt of a VET TEC COE.
If you have questions, you should email the VET TEC Education Liaison Representative team at ELR-VETTEC.VBABUF@va.gov. Veterans with questions regarding their VET TEC eligibility or the VET TEC program, should email the VET TEC team at VETTEC.VBABUF@va.gov.
For other questions about their GI Bill® education benefits, Veterans should call the Education Call Center at 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551).
