Dear School Certifying Official (SCO),
As of October 7, 2023, the ability to add Custom Remarks to Chapter 33 (CH33) enrollments at Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) and Non-College Degree (NCD) facilities will no longer be available.
This change is part of our broader effort to better deliver benefits to GI Bill® students. To inform this change, we first looked to understand what Custom Remarks SCOs were entering. Using the data as a guide, we developed new VBA Remarks to help you indicate routine changes made to a student’s enrollment that are not already visible in the enrollment. Below are five new VBA Remarks that will be added to Enrollment Manager in October:
- Incarcerated Student
- Dual Degree Program
- Tuition and Fees is in Foreign Currency
- Compliance Survey
- Correcting previously terminated enrollment. Notice of Change in Student Status(s) to follow.
This streamlined approach will ultimately help us improve the delivery of education benefits to our beneficiaries. In specific situations such as for the five VBA Remark scenarios listed above, you will be required to enter additional information. We will continue to provide updates for your awareness.
Note: There will be no change to the availability of Custom Remarks for On-the-Job Training/Apprentice (OJT/APP) programs and Flight school enrollments. Custom Remarks will still be available for OJT/APP and Flight schools for CH33 and all training types for non-33 benefits.
