Hello GI Bill® Community,
I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself as the recently appointed Executive Director for Education Service. I am excited and honored for the opportunity to serve and work alongside of you to deliver and administer GI Bill benefits in fulfillment of our country’s promise to care for and serve our nation’s Veterans and their families.
As a 28-year Veteran of the United States Air Force and having served in leadership positions at numerous higher education institutions, I understand well the positive power and impact VA services and benefits like the GI Bill have on beneficiaries, and how critical it is for us to work collaboratively with School Certifying Officials, Veterans Service Organizations, and dedicated partners to serve Veterans and their families.
The GI Bill was instrumental on the two occasions when I entered veteran status. The first was when I separated after eight years enlisted service to complete my bachelor’s degree and ROTC program at the University of Arizona before reentering active duty as a commissioned officer. The second time was when I retired and pursued a second master’s from Georgetown University. My academic pursuits empowered my family and I to seek out and realize greater fortunes, and I want to ensure that all GI Bill beneficiaries have the same opportunity to transform their lives.
I look forward to meeting and learning from you regarding your experiences with the GI Bill, and collaborating with our GI Bill beneficiaries, schools, and partners to build on our shared efforts to improve and innovate on GI Bill programs and our service outcomes.
Respectfully,
Joseph L. Garcia
Executive Director
