Dear GI Bill Student,
It’s time to verify your enrollment for the month. Please be sure to respond to text or email requests for verification in order to continue receiving your Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA)/kicker payments.
On the last day of the month, you will receive following text from VA, “Did you remain enrolled in your courses in January 2022 as certified? Please reply Yes or No. If you have dropped all of your courses, you must reply No.” Please reply “No” if you have dropped or stopped attending any courses or training.
If you completed your program or graduated this month, you would still reply “Yes” to the verification text even if you weren’t enrolled the entire month.
When you reply, you will receive a confirmation text, typically within a day. In the unlikely event it doesn't arrive, we advise waiting until the end of the first week of this coming month to call the ECC at 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551) to avoid the high call volume that happens at the beginning of every month.
Note: If you fail to submit enrollment verification for two consecutive months, your MHA/kicker payments will be put on hold until you verify your enrollment.
Please verify your enrollment within six days of receiving the text. If you do not respond after six days, the text conversation will expire, and you will need to contact the ECC to verify your enrollment. If you have already verified your enrollment, no further action is needed.
Please note that:
- Some students who opted into text verification in January had their confirmation texts blocked by their mobile carriers, but are still opted in.
- While you previously received VA texts from an area code 202 number, you will start receiving texts from a new toll-free number, (855) 933-1416.
- Some students at IHL facilities were auto-verified this month, so you may know people who didn't get a verification message.
