Dear Claimant,
Our records show that you served during the Post-Vietnam Era and entered active duty after December 31, 1976. During your time in service, you made financial contributions into the Post-Vietnam Era Veterans’ Education Assistance Program (VEAP). In general, Veterans have ten years from their date of discharge to use their education benefits. We have reviewed your service record and have determined that you are no longer eligible to receive benefits under this program.
In accordance with 38 CFR 21.5064, you are therefore entitled to a refund of your unused contributions. Your VEAP banking record shows unused contributions. We are unable to release this money to you via direct deposit. If claimed, your refund will be issued via United States Treasury check.
What Should You Do
To receive your refund, please complete sections 1 through 6, 14,15, and 18 on the 22-5281 Form available through the link below:
22-5281 (va.gov)
Once completed, please submit this document to the Department of Veterans Affairs by mailing it to the appropriate address as shown on the second page of the 22-5281.
Please allow 3-4 weeks from the date of your submission for your check to arrive.
