VA resumes in-person Compensation and Pension exams at select locations

At the beginning of April 2020, as concerns about COVID-19 infections increased and the President declared a national emergency, VA suspended its in-person medical disability examinations for its compensation and pension (C&P) programs. On May 28, 2020, VA resumed in-person C&P exams in locations where it was safe to do so. VA has since expanded these in-person examinations to other locations based upon local COVID-19 risk assessments.

If you require an in-person C&P exam and live in or near a resumed location, a VA contract medical exam provider will contact you. To learn more about the locations where VA has resumed in-person exams, please visit: https://www.benefits.va.gov/COMPENSATION/claimexam.asp

Disaster Relief Webinars Offer Resources for

Veteran-owned Small Businesses

The coronavirus (COVID-19) has impacted our nation’s small businesses, including the 2.5 million Veteran-owned small businesses across the country. To assist these Veteran entrepreneurs, VA’s Office of Small & Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) teamed up with the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Office of Veterans Business Development (OVBD) for a three-part webinar series to discuss COVID-19 disaster relief options.

Subject matter experts from both offices hosted a “Straight Talk – Straight Answer” webinar. These resources can empower the Veteran-owned small business community. If you’re a Veteran small business owner looking for virtual support, please visit: Disaster Relief Webinars to review this article in its entirety.

While VBA is not currently attending events in the community, we are sharing some other information and events hosted by our community partners that may be helpful during this time.

Check on the Status of your Economic Impact Payment

VA partnered with the Department of Treasury to ensure Veterans and survivors are able to receive their Economic Impact Payment automatically.  On April 26, 2020, VA successfully submitted data on 5.6M Veterans and survivors living within the United States and its territories to IRS, to include those who did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019.  Upon completion of this validation effort, IRS generated the delivery of payment to those Veterans and survivors they determined as eligible.   For more information, please visit the IRS website:

“Transition Talk” video series: Military to Civilian support during COVID-19

The Veterans Benefits Administration knows that the transition from military to civilian life can be stressful and complex. To combat the transition challenge that “You don’t know that you don’t know,” especially now during a global pandemic, VBA has launched a new video series, Transition Talk, to bring critical information and resources to transitioning service members and Veterans. Check out the inaugural episode here.

VA Welcome Kit

Whether you’re just getting out of the service or you’ve been a civilian for years now, the VA Welcome Kit can help guide you to the benefits and services you’ve earned.

Based on where you are in life, your VA benefits and services can support you in different ways. Keep your welcome kit handy so you can turn to it throughout your life—like when it’s time to go to school, get a job, buy a house, get health care, retire, or make plans for your care as you age.

Feel free to share this guide with friends or family members who need help with their benefits too. Download your VA Welcome Kit and print out copies for yourself and others!
