Memorial Day message from Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Sam Brown

Paying final respects

Honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Memorial Day message
from USMA Sam Brown

Dear NCA Supporters,

As Memorial Day approaches, our nation prepares to honor the men and women who gave their lives to secure our freedom. This tradition carries added meaning as we near America’s 250th anniversary, a reminder of how many generations have defended our country.

Memorial Day weekend is the busiest and most meaningful time of year for the National Cemetery Administration and the volunteers who help us fulfill our mission. For NCA team members, our partners, and our extended family - including Veterans Service Officers, cemetery support teams, honor guards, and other volunteers - this is not a weekend off. It is a shared commitment to honor our nation’s heroes, and we are deeply grateful for your unwavering support.

More than 120 of VA’s 157 national cemeteries will host ceremonies from May 23-25. I encourage you to visit a VA national cemetery near you. Ceremony details are available here:  Memorial Day Ceremonies at V.A. Cemeteries.

I also invite you to watch my brief Memorial Day video message reflecting on this special day and the enduring legacy of our nation’s fallen. Please share it with others, especially any Veterans you know.

As we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we are reminded that the liberties we enjoy today have been preserved through their courage and devotion. We owe it to them to honor and keep alive their legacies.

Thank you for your continued support of NCA! And thanks especially for everything you do on behalf of our nation’s Veterans and their families!

Sincerely,

Sam
