Honoring our nation's heroes

Memorial Day 2024

On Memorial Day, we pay our respects to the heroic men and women who lost their lives in service to our nation. This is the busiest time of the year for the National Cemetery Administration and the many volunteers who support our mission of honoring our nation’s heroes.  

Please take time this weekend to honor our fallen service members at any VA national cemetery. More than 130 of VA’s 155 national cemeteries will hold ceremonies between May 24 and May 27. You may also post tributes to Veterans through our online Veterans Legacy Memorial (VLM). VLM provides digital space to pay respects to those who have worn the uniform in service to our country. Almost 10 million Veterans are memorialized on VLM.

Once again, please take time to reflect on the supreme sacrifice made by those who gave their lives defending our country. We owe our freedom to them.
