Jacquelyn Hayes-Byrd

Jacquelyn Hayes-Byrd, Executive Director, Center for Women Veterans Office of the Secretary Jacquelyn Hayes-Byrd was sworn in on March 3, 2025, to serve as the Executive Director for the Center for Women Veterans. In this capacity, she will again serve as the primary advisor to the Secretary on Department policies, programs, and legislation that affect women Veterans. In addition, she provides oversight to the Center’s activities, which include managing and coordinating VA’s administration of health care, benefits services, and programs for women Veterans; serving the advocate for cultural transformation (both within VA and with the general public) in recognizing the service and contributions of women Veterans and servicemembers; and raising awareness of the responsibility to support and treat women Veterans with the ultimate dignity and respect. Ms. Hayes-Byrd offers extensive experience and expertise, having previously served as the Executive Director of the Center and her background that spans across Management, Operations, Administration, and Human Resources. She had a successful career in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Major as an Education and Training Officer, where she supported the needs of thousands of enlisted airmen and officers. She has built a career of service both in and out of uniform. Because of her expertise, attention to detail and 30 plus years of experience, she was asked to perform in leadership positions at the state level in the administration of the first female governor of the state of New Jersey and at federal government levels for three U.S. Presidents in The White House, the U.S. Department of State, and the U.S. Department of Commerce. She has also provided leadership in both private and not-for-profit organization. Jacquie is a member of both the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and Leadership Greater Washington.

Guest Speaker - Insurance Specialist, Social Security Administration

Trisha Mentzer

Insurance Specialist Social Security Administration Trisha Mentzer is a Social Insurance Specialist in the Office of Communications at the Social Security Administration (SSA). She has worked for the agency for 12 years in a technical capacity, and understands the compassion and work ethic needed to serve those in need across the country. Prior to joining the Social Security Administration, Trisha was an Army Military Police Officer. She is married to an Army veteran, and has two children. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Grand View University in Iowa, and her master’s degree in business management from Troy University in Alabama.
