Yoga is a mind and body practice with origins in ancient Indian philosophy. The various styles of yoga typically combine physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation. There are many types of yoga, including gentle restorative yoga where you are guided through supported postures held for longer amounts of time, and more active and physical practices (and many others in between). Bay Pines VA has spent the last nine months raising awareness of women Veterans as part of VA’s year-long celebration of 100 years of health care to women. On Sept. 14, we dedicated the first of nine planned Women Veteran Wall displays at C.W. Bill Young VA. In the following weeks, the displays will be unveiled at the Lee County Healthcare Center and the health care system’s seven VA Clinics. [From VA News]

Jennifer Harris graduated from Swampscott High School in Swampscott, Mass, in 1996. She attended the Naval Academy, graduating in 2000 with a commission into the Marine Corps. A pilot, she earned her Wings of Gold in September 2002. [From VA News]

VA’s National TeleOncology services increase access to breast and gynecological cancer care for Veterans across the United States. VA oncologists can deliver cancer screenings, diagnostics and treatment through telehealth. These services enable Veterans in rural areas or with busy schedules to get the care they need. Our Military Kids (OMK) is a national nonprofit group that provides extracurricular activity scholarships to children and teens (ages 3-18) of deployed National Guard and Reserve and post-9/11 combat-injured Veterans in treatment. OMK has expanded its eligibility criteria to include children of post-9/11 combat wounded, ill or injured Veterans with a VA individual disability rating of 30% or higher who are receiving treatment for a presumptive condition outlined in the PACT Act. I kept refreshing my browser, over and over, as midnight approached on September 19, 2011. At 12:01 AM, the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” would be official—and a collector’s edition of OutServe Magazine would be published online. The OutServe headline “101 Faces of Courage” was apt, as it featured pictures of active duty gay, lesbian, and bisexual service members in uniform, with their full names and duty stations, emphasizing the story that yes, thousands of LGB* Americans were already serving with honor. Rhonda L. Cornum was born in October 1954 in Dayton, Ohio, and grew up in New York. She came from a military background, as her grandfather served in the Marines during World War II. Cornum earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and genetics and then a doctorate in biochemistry from Cornell University in 1971. [From VA News]
