North Carolina Veterans Exposed to Burn Pits

Do you know if you were exposed to burn pit toxins?

VA considers you to have a presumption of exposure to burn pits if you served in any of these locations or their airspace:

  • After September 11, 2001 – Afghanistan, Djibouti, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Uzbekistan, or Yemen.
  • On or after August 2, 1990 - Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, or the UAE.

If this applies to you, there’s two things you should do now:

  1. Sign up for the burn pit registry even if you don’t think you were exposed or don’t have any symptoms.
  2. Visit www.va.gov/PACT to learn more about the new benefits and services you may be eligible for because of your exposure.
