Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Navy Veteran Raquel Bono, a Filipino-American who served in the Navy for over three decades. As a child, Raquel Bono, born Raquel Cruz, lived in the Philippines, Minnesota and Canada before settling in Texas. Her father was a surgeon and served in the U.S. Navy Reserve. [From VAntage Point]

This week’s America250 salute is Navy Veteran Sunita Williams, who served as a Gulf War helicopter pilot before becoming a NASA astronaut. A helicopter pilot and NASA astronaut, Sunita Williams set the then world record for most time spent on space walks by a woman. During her deployment with the Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 8, she helped prevent an Iraqi invasion of Saudi Arabia and evacuate Iraqi Kurdish refugees. [From VAntage Point]
