In recognition of National Family Caregivers Month, we wanted to reach out and share some resources with you and your family. As caregivers of Veterans, you make immeasurable sacrifices to care for our Nation’s heroes. Thank you for all you do and for who you are.
Caregivers have been overlooked by VA over the years, but those days are over, VA Secretary Denis McDonough said Oct. 29.
Speaking at the Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s Sixth Annual National Convening, McDonough said one of VA’s most important jobs is to support caregivers.

VA Caregiver Support Program
The VA Caregiver Support Program offers clinical, educational, and wrap-around services to individuals who care for Veterans enrolled in Veterans Health Administration health-service programs.
“In alignment with the Caregiver Action Network, this year’s theme is #CaregiverAnd, which aims to encourage caregivers to embrace their sense of self, including their identities outside of being caregivers,” said VA Caregiver Support Program Executive Director, Colleen M. Richardson, Psy.D. “We know there are many components that make our caregivers who they are – they have passions beyond caregiving, and we want to recognize them outside of their day-to-day responsibilities.”

Free Help for Veteran Caregivers for the Holidays
For Veterans who have a spouse, family member, or friend who helps provide them with care and support at home and could use an extra set of hands, The Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s Respite Relief Program provides free caregiving support. Before the holiday season begins, we want to make sure you’re aware of a special opportunity exclusively for Veteran caregivers like you.
