On his 84th birthday, today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Air Force Veteran Morgan Freeman, who served from 1955 to 1959 and became an award-winning actor. Born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1937, Morgan Freeman was the youngest of five children. [From VAntage Point]

Memorial Day may come for some once a year, but for Gold Star Mother Sallie Woodard, it is every day since the passing of her son, U.S. Navy Engineman Second Class Sebastian Woodard, on March 4, 2015 (Served from 2006-2015). Six years ago, Woodard was handed a folded American flag where she found herself in a place she never imagined to be. “Before I went to the Vet Center, I did not know what to think, I did not know what to do,” she said. During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Allen K. Hoe, a combat medic during the Vietnam War. Allen K. Hoe was born in April 1947 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to a native Hawaiian and Caucasian mother and a Chinese and Japanese father. Hoe’s father was a ship fitter at Pearl Harbor and served during World War II. [From VAntage Point]

Depression was ruining combat Veteran Ricardo Martinez’s life, and he knew it. The Iraqi War Veteran had isolated himself for a year. During that time, he lost six people in his life to COVID-19. “Everything got pushed down,” said Martinez, who served in the Army for six years, including in the 82nd Airborne Division. Army Veteran Hiroshi Miyamura is the second Japanese American to receive the Medal of Honor. His award was classified by the Army for 28 months while Miyamura was held by North Korean forces as a prisoner of war during the Korean War. [From VAntage Point]
