COVID-19 Vaccine Trial Enrolling at a VA Medical Center Near You
The VA New York (NY) Harbor Healthcare System is offering a COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial at their Manhattan Campus for the COVID-19 vaccine by AstraZeneca.
By joining a COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial, you may get early access to a new vaccine and will receive more regular health check-ins as part of your study visits.
You can help.
Veterans of color and Veterans aged 65 or older are currently under-represented in the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial at the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System. Researchers want to make sure all populations are included so they can make sure the vaccines work well to protect everyone.
If you’re from a racial, ethnic, or age group under-represented in the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial and are interested in joining, sign up for VA’s coronavirus research volunteer list at www.va.gov/coronavirus-research. You may be called if you are a good fit for the study.
Can I still get a COVID-19 vaccine if one is approved?
Participation in this study will not prevent you from getting an approved vaccine if you qualify to receive it. That said, COVID-19 vaccines may not be available to most of the public for the next few months.
What does it means to volunteer?
When you join VA’s coronavirus research volunteer list, you’re not enrolling in the clinical trial. You’re simply making yourself available to be called if you are a good fit for this trial or another COVID-19 research trial at your local VA. Once you’ve had the chance to speak with the study team, and ask all your questions, you can decide if you want to join. We want you to be informed and make the right decision for you.
