COVID-19 Vaccine Trial Now Offered at a VA Medical Center Near You
This month, two VA medical centers will launch clinical trials for the investigational COVID-19 vaccine developed by Novavax. This is the fifth large-scale COVID-19 vaccine trial in the United States.
You can help.
If you are interested in participating in the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial at the VAs listed below, sign up for VA’s coronavirus research volunteer list at www.va.gov/coronavirus-research. Anyone over the age of 18 can volunteer: Veterans, friends and family of Veterans, and VA staff. You may be called if you seem like a good fit for the trial.
The following are the two VA medical centers participating in the trial:
- VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System
- Miami VA Healthcare System
We especially need communities of color to sign up. Why? Because Black, Hispanic and Native Americans are several times more likely to get sick, have complications and die from COVID-19 than White Americans. But few are participating in clinical trials for vaccines and treatments.
What it means to volunteer.
When you join VA’s coronavirus research volunteer list, you’re not enrolling in the clinical trial. You’re simply making yourself available to be called if this trial or other COVID-19 research at VA seem like a good fit for you. Once you’ve had the chance to speak with the study team, and ask all your questions, you can decide whether or not you want to join. We want you to be informed and make the right decision for you.
You cannot get COVID-19 from the investigational vaccine or the placebo used as part of the study. The investigational vaccine will not increase your risk of COVID-19.
