Granville Coggs, who was one of the nation’s first black military pilots during World War II, has died at the age of 93. Coggs served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen from 1943 to 1946. [From Stars and Stripes]

The Navajo Nation has announced that World War II-era Navajo Code Talker Fleming Begaye Sr. has died. Begaye was among hundreds of Navajos who served in the Marine Corps, using a code based on their native language to outsmart the Japanese. [From Stars and Stripes]
