Haley Veterans’ Hospital Polytrauma Clinic is spent working with therapists helping him regain some of the skills and abilities he lost after suffering a major traumatic brain injury in Iraq.  But there’s one therapist in particular that puts a smile on his face every time he visits. It takes between 37 and 75 days for Veterans in the Pacific islands to receive medical attention and mental health care from defense facilities, the Government Accounting Office said, confirming the Veterans’ perennial complaints about delayed services.  “These delays were similar to some GAO had identified in previous work pertaining to Veterans’ access to care nationwide,” GAO stated in a report released Friday. Veterans from the Pacific do receive health benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare system, but many still fall through the cracks, mostly falling victim to enrolment application delay processing and other errors, according to a new report from the Governmental Accountability Office. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Navajo Nation Veterans Affairs will host an event to help Native American veterans in identifying eligibility for benefits and filing claims.  “Your Service.  Our Mission:  Bringing Benefits Home“ is a national campaign between the VA and 20 tribal communities to help Veterans access the range of benefits they earned through their military service.
